A Coralville man was arrested Monday after he attempted to drive off from a Casey's General Store, in a stolen car, without paying for gas.
According to an Iowa State Patrol report, Deandre L. R. Irby, 20, of 419 Tenth Ave. No. 3, was pulled over in a 2001 Jeep Cherokee after troopers matched it to the car that drove off from Casey's, near the 220 mile marker at Interstate 80, without paying for gas.
During an interview, Irby admitted to seeing the Cherokee with the keys still inside in front of an Oxford residence and driving off with it, troopers said.
The owner of the Jeep, which hadn't yet been reported it stolen, was notified of the found vehicle, and Irby was charged with second-degree theft, a Class D felony, and driving while suspended.
He was being held at the Johnson County Jail Wednesday on a $10,500 cash bond.
