Wilbur Charles Detert,
93, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, April 30, 2018, at Northbrook Manor. As per Wilbur's wishes, there will
be private family services at Czech National Cemetery. Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids is in charge of arrangements.
Wilbur was born March 5, 1925, in Solon, the son of Charles and Agnes (Fisher) Detert. He attended rural school in the Sandy Beach area. Wilbur was a dedicated farmer and gardener at his home and for Baumhoefener Nursery for many years. He enjoyed growing roses, fishing, hunting, dancing, playing cards, and listening and dancing to Czech music. Wilbur was always eager to help others, including his friends, neighbors and especially family. He was a longtime member of NFO (National Farmers Organization), Farm Bureau and the Moose Lodge.
Wilbur is survived by his children, Sandy Detert of Jackson, Minn., Ronnie (Wanda) Detert and Valencia (Darrel) Pospisil; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his brother, Vernon Detert of North Liberty; his sister, Wilma Logan of California; former wife, Irene Detert of Cedar Rapids; sisters-in-law, JoAnn Detert of Anamosa and Ruth Stark of Cedar Rapids; former longtime companion, GenRose Smucker of Cedar Rapids; as well as his nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Leonard, Norbert and Donald (Phyllis) Detert; stepson, Richard Detert; his sister, Martha (Edwin) Mekota; brothers-in-law, Donald Logan, Ray Musil, Charles Musil and Arthur Stark; and his second wife, Lorraine Detert.
