Kuehl, Ralph 'Dick'
Ralph “Dick” Kuehl, 90, died on Oct. 30, 2009, at West Ridge Care Center. At Dick's request, there will be no visitation or services. He asked his family to thank all of those that visited and wrote to him after Virginia died and while he was living at West Ridge.
Dick was born May 1, 1919, the son of John and Clara Horstman Kuehl. He married Virginia Logan on June 25, 1942. Virginia died in October of 2007.
Survivors include his daughter, Caryl Valenta and husband, Jim; grandchildren and their families, Marc, Beth, Samantha and Anna Valenta; Robin, Scott, Alex and Emma Cooper; Michael (Chip), Jodi, Logan and Frank Valenta, all of Cedar Rapids; a twin brother, Ray; and brother, Laverne.
Dick attended Upper Iowa University and received B.A. and M.A. degrees from the University of Iowa. He served in the Navy and was attached to the Marines during World War II. He was executive vice president of Bishop Buffets, Inc. until his retirement. After his retirement, he and Virginia had a wonderful life including friends from Elmcrest Country Club, where he was president, traveling and raising and racing thoroughbred horses.
His family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers at West Ridge and St. Luke's Hospice. Your kindness is very much appreciated.
