Jul. 20, 2013 11:27 pm
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Cedar Rapids Kernels stranded 13 runners on base in a 1-0 loss Saturday night to the Fort Wayne Tincaps at Parkview Field.
Cedar Rapids (59-37 overall) had a three-game win streak snapped. The teams play again Sunday afternoon.
Tim Atherton (5-3) was the tough-luck losing pitcher, going seven innings and allowing just five hits and a run, striking out nine. Fort Wayne scored the only run of the game in the sixth inning.
The Kernels had runners on second and third with none out and the bases loaded with one out in the sixth but couldn't score against Fort Wayne starter Bryan Rodriguez (2-4). They had the bases loaded with one out in the ninth, but Max Kepler fouled out to third base and Adam Brett Walker grounded out.
