Anderson, Norm
Norm Anderson passed away at age 65 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on Sept. 28, 2012, from the effects of metastatic renal cell carcinoma. The family will host a visitation from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. A ceremony in his memory will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 1, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories.
Norman Wesley Anderson was born in Red Oak, Iowa on April 8, 1947. He was one of five children born to parents Harold and Norma Anderson. After growing up on the family farm in Stanton, Iowa, with his siblings, Eldon, Wayne, Mary Jo and Elaine, Norm went on to graduate with a degree in electrical engineering from Iowa State University.
Norm spent a great deal of his life in the Cedar Rapids area and most of his career as an engineer for Rockwell Collins. He and his wife Becky met when Becky was his dental hygienist. The couple married in 1984 and enjoyed 28 years together, one of the highlights being, taking family trips with their children and grandchildren.
Norm was an active volunteer at Theatre Cedar Rapids and with the McKinley and Washington show choirs, supporting productions in which his grandsons, Denzell and Darian, and his Goldendoodle Hinkel performed. Avid golfers, Norm and Becky hosted the annual Anderson Invitational golf tournament at St. Andrew's golf course for 25 years. Even though Norm was an Iowa State alumnus, he was an enthusiastic Hawkeye fan, rarely missing a home or bowl game. He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids.
He is survived by his wife, Becky; and his children, Brian and Jodi, Brent and Christine, Jared, and Lindsay. Norm was the proud grandparent of Denzell, Darian, Abby, Zach and Leighton. In addition, he is survived by his siblings and their spouses, Becky's parents and sister, and many nephews, nieces, great-nephews, and great-nieces.
Norm's family would like to thank the staff of the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy for their compassion and attentive care.
In lieu of flowers, it was Norm's wish to have donations made to Theatre Cedar Rapids, Patrons of the Performing Arts of Washington High School, or Patrons of the Performing Arts of McKinley Middle School.
He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and his dog, Hinkel.
