Velda Irene Sullivan passed away Friday, Oct. 17, 2014, at The Wellstead of Rogers in Rogers, Minn.,
at the age of 96.
She was born July 31, 1918, in Ryan, Iowa, the
daughter of Herman August and Frieda Viola (Voelschow) Hartman. She spent her entire childhood in rural Ryan and graduated from Man-chester High School. Velda was united in marriage to Merle Eugene Sullivan at Peace Lutheran Church in Ryan on Nov. 3, 1935. He preceded her in death Oct. 18, 1986.
Velda was a longtime resident of Manchester and Waterloo before moving to Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., and most recently, Rogers, Minn. She was a very active member at First Lutheran Church in Waterloo and Nazareth Lutheran in Cedar Falls, serving on many women's groups. Velda was manager at the lunch counter at Adams Grocery in Waterloo for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers, Virgil, Donald and Delbert Hartman; and two sisters-in-law, Jean Hartman and Joanne Hartman Ombruni.
Velda is survived by a son, Larry (Lois) Sullivan of Maple Grove, Minn.; a daughter, Glenda (Gene) Henderson of Miami Beach, Fla.; four grandchildren, Mark (Lynn) Sullivan, Amy Norberg, Matthew (Kristin) Sullivan and Chris (Amy) Collis; eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Ardith Hartman of Waverly and Faye Wright of Manchester.
Velda's family will establish a memorial fund for perpetual care at Peace Lutheran Cemetery in Ryan.
