Rogers, Jerrie W.
Jerrie W. Rogers, 75, died Tuesday, Aug. 28, at Mercy Iowa City following a sudden illness. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 31, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with the Very Rev. Rudolph Juarez officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City, where a vigil service will be recited at 7:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Kris Rogers Cancer Research Fund or the Kris Rogers Athletic Scholarship Fund, c/o University of Iowa Foundation, or to St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
Jerrie was born Jan. 31, 1937, in Iowa City, the son of Harley and Mona Haughenberry Rogers. He was a graduate of Iowa City High School. On Aug. 3, 1957, Jerrie married Dorothy Dee at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Jerrie was a well-known and respected Iowa City contractor. He owned and operated Jerrie Rogers Construction.
Jerrie was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. He enjoyed fast pitch softball and was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs.
Jerrie is survived by his wife of 55 years, Dorothy; and their five children, Julie (Rick) Berry, Laurie Rogers (Amy Strefling) and Steven (Carole) Rogers, all of Scottsdale, Ariz., Michelle (Kent) Meyer of Fort Mill, S.C., and Mary Rogers of Chino Valley, Ariz.; 13 grandchildren, Kami, Ryan, Kaycie and Kristian Berry, Jeremy and Will Meyer, Travis and Taylor Dyer, Davis Strefling, and Hailey, Jacob, Corey and Emma Rogers; one brother, Harold (Marilyn) Rogers of Iowa City; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jerrie was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Kris Rogers; and his brother, Lee.
