Silhanek, Arlene L.
Arlene L. Silhanek, 92, of Belle Plaine, died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2013, at the Belle Plaine Nursing and Rehab Center. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 23, at Hrabak Funeral Home in Belle Plaine, with Pastor Charles Johnson officiating. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Vining.
Arlene was born Oct. 23, 1921, the daughter of Henry and Alma (Mehlhouse) Tecklenburg. She grew up in rural Keystone, graduating from Keystone High School in 1939. She married Michael C. Silhanek on Nov. 6, 1940. He preceded her in death in 1974.
Arlene and her husband farmed in the Elberon and Belle Plaine areas until moving to Belle Plaine in 1974. For several years Arlene worked at Moore's Bakery.
Arlene is survived by her four children, Michael J. (Marilyn) of Elberon, Roger R. (Carolyn) of Belle Plaine, Larry D. (Susan) of Melbourne, Fla., and Nancy S. (Donald) Wolfe of Maynard; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty (Emil) Kapucian and Marjorie (Melvin) Schulte, both of Cedar Rapids; sister-in-law, Jane Tecklenburg of Arlington, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Harvey.
