Mary Lynn Byington, 63, of Honolulu, Hawaii, formerly of Iowa City, died Tuesday, May 19, 2015, at her home. The family will greet friends Sunday, July 19, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at The Kirkwood Room – a remembrance service will be at 5 p.m. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the West High School Show Choir, c/o Iowa City Community School District Foundation (1725 N. Dodge St., Iowa City, IA 52245).
Mary Lynn was born July 18, 1951, in Iowa City, the daughter of William and Helen Beneke Byington. She was a 1969 graduate of Iowa City West High School, where she sang in the show choir. Mary Lynn attended Iowa State University and received her bachelor's degree from the University of Iowa in 1973 in speech pathology.
For 42 years, Mary Lynn was a resident of Honolulu, where she was a massage therapist. She loved Hawaii and had many friends.
Survivors include her mother, Helen, of Iowa City; two sisters, Lee Ann Muller of New York and Karly (Randy) Beavers of Des Moines; nieces, Bethany Beavers of San Diego and Maggie (Brad) Pitcher of Eugene, Ore.; her aunt, Linda Hessel; her uncle, Dean Beneke; and her cousins.
Mary Lynn was preceded in death by her father.
