Harrelson, Everett L.
UPDATED Everett L. Harrelson, 85, former resident of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2011, in Rockford, Ill. Graveside services will be held in the spring at Rockton Township Cemetery, Rockton, Ill.
Born June 18, 1925, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Clarence and Frances (Ellison) Harrelson, he married Marilyn J. Fabor on March 14, 1953. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Marine Corps.
He was a member of the Moose Club, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and former member of the Elks, all of Cedar Rapids. Everett was an avid reader and artist. He loved television, especially western type movies. He loved and adored all animals, especially his many family pets.
Survivors include daughter, Dolores (Jim) Speers, Rockton, Ill.; grandchildren, Amber (Jesse) Gottman and Ryan Speers; brothers, Ronald (Lillian) Harrelson, Cedar Rapids, and John (Gloria) Harrelson, Ely.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn, on Jan. 6, 2010; parents; and sisters, Kathleen Strueble, Mildred Vollbrecht and Dolores Harrelson.
Everett was loved and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He will be remembered for his kind heart and feisty spirit. His daughter and family will cherish the seven months they were able to spend together in Rockford, Ill.
