Velma Cherry, 96, of Lisbon, passed away Monday, May 15, 2017. A gathering of family and friends: 10 a.m. to noon Friday, May 19, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Mount Vernon. Burial: noon Friday at Lisbon Cemetery.
Velma was born Dec. 11, 1920. She married Arthur and was married for 38 years before his death in 1988. She is survived by her children, Velma Lee (Leon) Gaines of Coggon, Helen Trelfz of Mount Vernon, Carol (Charles) Escobedo of Waukegan, Ill., and James (Nancy) Cherry of Walford; grandchildren, Mary (Bill), Leann, Allen, Brandon, Joshua and Sylvia; and seven great-grandchildren.
Velma enjoyed reading, crosswords, word searches, jigsaw puzzles, crocheting, arts and crafts, collecting recipes and volunteering at Southeast Linn County Community Center.
She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Buster; parents; eight brothers; and three sisters.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to Solon Nursing Care Center.
