Joslin, Verne C.
Verne C. Joslin, 88, a resident of the Hiawatha Care Center, Hiawatha, died there Saturday, July 24, 2010. Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Faith Bible Church, Robins, by Pastor Bryan Regier. Visitation: 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Burial: 10 a.m. Wednesday, at Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, with military honors by American Legion Post No. 727.
Survivors include his wife, Valene; children, Douglas (Margaret) Joslin of Marshalltown, Linda (Steve) Ritz of Walnut Creek, Calif., Bonnie (Larry) Schuller of Cedar Falls, and Theresa “Teri” (Larry) Graw of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Verne was preceded in death by his parents; son, Dennis Joslin; four brothers, Cyrus, Wayne, Gerald and Andrew; and one sister, Edna Campbell.
Born July 15, 1922, in Anamosa, Iowa, Verne was the son of Cash and Mary (Lorenzen) Joslin. He graduated from Anamosa High School and then served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. During the Battle of the Bulge, he was wounded and received the Purple Heart. On August 16, 1947, he was united in marriage to Valene Krumroy in Cedar Rapids. For 40 years, Verne was a service manager at an auto dealership.
In 1974, Verne received Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and he faithfully continued to walk with the Lord. His joy was studying the Bible; his passion was sharing this Truth and Love with family and friends. Verne loved the outdoors in God's creation, especially his yard and visiting birds. He also loved cars, especially antique cars.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Marc Wilkinson, Dr. Deb Wilbur and the many caring and compassionate people of Mercy Hospice, Hiawatha Care Center, Pastor Steve Benton, Pastor Bryan Regier and faithful friends and family.
