Crosbie, Calvin Lynn
Calvin Lynn Crosbie, 50, of North Liberty, died Saturday, June 5, 2010, at Mercy Hospice following a courageous fight against cancer. Memorial services will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday at Solid Rock Christian Church, 51 Second St. (Highway 6), Coralville. The family will begin greeting friends at 4 p.m. Burial will be at a later date in Paullina, Iowa.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Calvin Crosbie Memorial Fund, c/o Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, Box 167, Iowa City, IA 52244.
Calvin, the son of Owen and Mildred Livezey Crosbie, was born Dec. 31, 1959, in Primghar, Iowa. He was a graduate of Paullina High School and Iowa State University. On June 24, 1989, Calvin married Lorie Dennhardt.
Calvin owned and operated Crosbie Diamonds and Gems in North Liberty, which he established in 1999. Previously, he was employed by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce (Washington, D.C.), Rogers Jewelers (Cedar Rapids), and Riddle and Ringer Jewelers (Ames). Calvin was also a member of Solid Rock Christian Church, where he served as an elder. In his free time, Calvin enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, gardening and camping.
Calvin will be remembered as a strong man of faith, who trusted Jesus in every area of life. He was loving, honest and wise … a friend of many and a gifted businessman.
Calvin is survived by his wife, Lorie; and their three children, Candace, Caleb and Joshua; his parents, Owen and Mildred of Paullina; five siblings, Mark (Deb) Arabadjief of Plainfield, lll., Theodore “Ted” (Rowena) Crosbie of Earlham, Teresa “Terri” Crosbie (Eric Russ) of Hendersonville, N.C., Christine Livezey of Holstein, and Nancy (Al) Moton of Pella; in-laws, Frederick and Betty Dennhardt of Davenport; sister-in-law, Christina Smith of Davenport; and numerous nieces and nephews.
