Clair McGriff, 78, passed away Thursday, Nov. 10, 2016, at his home. A private family burial will take place in Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion.
Clair is survived by his wife, Carmen of Cedar Rapids; two daughters, Julie (Leroy) Schlesselman of Northbrook and Nicole (Steve) Olson of Cedar Rapids; two granddaughters, Ashley Schlesselman and Lexie Olson; his mother, Wanda Peterson of Fairfield Bay, Ark.; and a brother, Larry (Peggy Helfrich) McGriff of Capistrano Beach, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Gary.
Clair was born July 1, 1938, in Newton, Iowa, the son of Walto and Wanda (Amendt) McGriff. He graduated from Grinnell High School and then earned his bachelor's degree from Drake University. On June 18, 1960, in Malcom, he married Carmen Farley.
Clair was in the corporate information technology field for many years. He was a member of Echo Hill Presbyterian Church and also the Information Technology Board at Kirkwood Community College.
Clair was an avid Hawkeye fan and a sports enthusiast. He collected Ford Mustangs and his prize possession was his 1966 convertible.
