Margaret F. Elliott, 88, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2018, at her home surrounded by her family following a short battle with cancer. Private family services will be at the Linwood Cemetery Mausoleum. A reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, at the Legacy Center at Murdoch-Linwood, Cedar Rapids. Arrangements by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Margaret was born May 25, 1930, to John and Amanda (Heiber) Tichy in Ely, Iowa. On Nov. 19, 1950, Margaret was united in marriage to John William Elliott in Kirksville, Mo. They were married nearly 61 years upon John's passing in 2011. Margaret worked for many years as a cashier and produce clerk at the Me Too Supermarket on J Street.
Margaret was an animal lover. She loved watching and feeding the birds and squirrels and was known to nurse animals back to health, from iguanas to baby robins. Margaret was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to many. She will be missed by those who treasured her.
Margaret is survived by her children, Jackie (Judson) Kennerson of Norwich, Conn., Bill (Denise) Elliott of Marion and Bob (Robin) Elliott of Cedar Rapids; eight grandchildren, Andrea Jones, Caron (Owen) Quantick, Scott Jones (Jill Leaptrott), Ryan Elliott, Brandon Elliott, Amy (Greg) Wilhelmi, Shaun (Jenny) and Stephen (Amanda) Elliott; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and beloved husband, John.
The family would like to thank the entire staff at Hospice of Mercy for their compassionate care shown to Margaret.
Memorials in Margaret's name have been designated to Hospice of Mercy.
