Louis Karl Breuer III, a native of Lyndhurst, N.J., was a retired lieutenant colonel, serving 26 years in the Air Force, beginning in World War II as a pilot. In his career, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal and the French Croix de Guerre. In 1953, the General James Doolittle committee commended him for his “distinguished service to aviation.”
He attended Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and majored in journalism. Working as a reporter and columnist for the Cedar Rapids Gazette, he wrote “The Prop Wash.” He was the son-in-law of the late Ray Anderson, Farm Editor of the Gazette for many years. He relocated to Texas in 1959.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, former Elizabeth (Betty) Anderson; children, LouEllen, Teresa and John; grandchildren, Sara, Melissa, Jason and Katelyn; and great-grandchildren, Tyler, Emily and Zoey.
He was preceded in death by his son, Louis Karl IV; brother, John; and sister, Bernice.
He was a devout Christian and a member of St. Anthony Church in Wylie, Texas.
He touched many lives as a husband, father, brother, friend and mentor. He gave much and expected little. He was Our Rock. He will be missed.
