Luther, Geraldine 'Gerry'
Geraldine “Gerry” Luther, 79, of Oelwein, died peacefully in her sleep Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012, at her home. Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oelwein, by the Rev. Paul McManus. Burial: Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation: 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at Geilenfeld Funeral Chapel in Oelwein, where there will be a rosary at 3 p.m. and a vigil service at 6:30 p.m.
Born April 27, 1933, in Oelwein, Iowa, the daughter of Earl and Alice (Hunter) Lilly, she graduated from Oelwein High School in 1951. She married Donald R. Luther on Aug. 25, 1952, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein. A homemaker, Gerry raised her family, then worked for 17 years at the Oelwein Care Center as head housekeeper.
Survivors include her sons, Donald “Duke” (Cindy) Luther II of Brooklyn Park, Minn., and David (Kelly) Luther of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Libbi, Jessi, Justin and Angella; five great-grandchildren, Shawnnessy, Ayre Anna, Tres, Jossalin and Isabella; a sister-in-law, Jo Lilly; a special Godson, Steve Loban; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald (2002); a daughter, Debra Ann “Debbie” (2010); a son, Richard “Rich” (1977); and two brothers, Earl Lilly (2012) and Jim Lilly (2009).
A memorial fund is established in Gerry's name.
