Fedeler, Virginia Mae
Virginia Mae Fedeler, 84, died Sunday, March 6, 2011, at her daughter's home in Cedar Rapids, where she had been living. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 11, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye with the Rev. William Horn officiating. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Hawkeye and one hour before the service Friday at the church. Interment will be at the Hawkeye Cemetery in Hawkeye.
Virginia Mae Fedeler, daughter of John and Bessie Hawks Cline, was born July 29, 1926, in rural Hawkeye, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed in 1940, at Bethel Presbyterian Church in West Union. On May 12, 1945, she was united in marriage with LaVerne Fedeler. Later in 1949, she was again confirmed and became a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye. To this union four children were born, Douglas, William, Kathleen and Annette.
Virginia was very active at Trinity serving as a Sunday school teacher, treasurer of the church and serving on the church council and stewardship committee for many years. She was also active on the family farm, helping with chores and field work, and later serving as bookkeeper for the family owned Alpha Mill in Alpha, Iowa. For many years she and LaVerne enjoyed spending weekends fishing at Harpers Ferry. After retirement, she spent many years enjoying spending time with all her grandkids.
She is survived by one son, Bill (Monica) Fedeler of Ames; two daughters, Kathy (Marty) Ermels of Urbandale, and Annette (Jon) Brightwell of Cedar Rapids; a daughter-in-law, Mary (Marv) Shippy of Hawkeye; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one sister, Betty Bemiss of West Union.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, LaVerne; one son, Doug; her parents; three sisters, Lorraine Nuss, Mildred Westpfahl and Genevieve Weitenhagen; three brothers, Kenny, James and Robert Cline; and her mother-in-law, Lillian Fedeler.
