DeVault, Mary Ruth

Mary Ruth DeVault, 100, a resident of Linn Manor Care Center, died there Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013. Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Linda Livingston. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, from 5 to 7 p.m. today.

Ruth was born Sept. 27, 1913, in Marion, the daughter of Rubin and Lydia Traum Merrill. Her family resided on Seventh Avenue where Merrill Gardens are currently located. She was a 1931 graduate of Marion High School.

Ruth was united in marriage to Donald R. DeVault on May 5, 1968. She was employed for 40 years at Robb Insurance in Marion as an office worker and underwriter, retiring in 1975.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Don, who passed away March 7, 2004; her sister, Hazel J, Merrill; a brother, Donald C. Merrill; and her parents.

Ruth had a lifelong love of gardening, especially flowers, and enjoyed music, particularly Lawrence Welk and polka tunes on the radio.

She will be remembered as a generous, cheerful and kind person.

Memorial gifts may be given in Ruth's honor to Linn Manor Care Center.
