Loren Francis Knebel was born on Sept. 24, 1939, in Riverside, Iowa, the son of Zeno F. and Irene Mary (Gerot) Knebel. He was a 1958 graduate of St. Mary's High School. Loren married the love of his life, DeAnn R. Watkinson, on Aug. 31, 1960, at St. Mary's Church in Riverside, where they started their 58-year journey together. For over 32 years, Cannon was employed at the University of Iowa.
Many things brought joy to Cannon's life, He especially loved going to car shows and showing off his classic cars, riding his lawn mowers and mowing several yards, gardening and taking vacations riding his motorcycle. Cannon could fix any and every thing. If he couldn't fix it, it couldn't be fixed. One of his enjoyments was to build many Christmas presents for grandkids.
Cannon will be deeply missed by his wife, DeAnn of Riverside; his children, Larry (Janet) Knebel of Hills and Lisa (Brian) Rummelhart of Iowa City; three grandchildren, Jacob Rummelhart, Kelly Rummelhart and her fiance, Houston Herrald, and Eric Knebel; two brothers, Dick Knebel of Iowa City and Harley (Carole) Knebel of Falmouth, Mass.; two sisters, Shirley Slaughter of Iowa City and Liela (Wayne) Horak of Iowa City; mother-in-law, Dorothy Watkinson of Riverside; and many nieces and nephews.
Cannon was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Carol Knebel, Dorothy "Dottie" Krantz and Thelda Hill; brother, Teddy Knebel; and his father-in-law, Walter Watkinson.
