The Jan. 23 Faith and Values article titled “After Haiti's earthquake, a spiritual debate brews” was a good one. It ended with: “God is still God and He does everything for a reason.” I would like to express a different Christian view.
God did allow the earthquake to happen because God is still creating this planet and so we have earthquakes. But, I don't believe God wants us to take this tragedy personally as if we are always the center of the universe. God is concerned with our lives and thus concerned how we relate to tragedies of this kind. God can help us respond positively if we let Him guide us as many have done with the floods.
In chapter 5 of Matthew, Jesus is recorded to have said some important things about love, including: “ ... for He makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.”
