Sikir, Vernon Charles
Vernon Charles Sikir, 86, died Saturday, June 15, 2013, at the Belle Plaine Nursing & Rehab following an extended illness. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 18, at First Lutheran Church in Belle Plaine, with the Rev. Dean Duncan officiating. Committal cervices will be at the Keystone Cemetery, with graveside military rites conducted by James R. Kalina American Legion Post 226 of Elberon. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Phillips Funeral Home in Keystone.
A memorial fund has been established.
Vernon was born Sept. 23, 1926, in Elberon, to Charles and Hattie (Bobinet) Sikir. He graduated from Elberon High School in 1945. During the Korean War, he served his nation in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Elberon Legion Post.
On Sept. 16, 1956, he was united in marriage to Olga Holst in Belle Plaine. Vernon farmed until his retirement. Vernon was a member of First Lutheran Church in Belle Plaine
He is survived by his wife, Olga of Belle Plaine; his daughters, Sylvia Sikir of Waterloo and Sheila (Mark) Ward of Fort Myers, Fla.; his sons, Paul (Jody) Sikir of Madison, Wis., and Keith (Amy) Sikir of Camby, Ind.; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Lois Marie Sikir.
