CEDAR RAPIDS – Even with an I.O.U. note, taking $1,200 is still illegal.
A Cedar Rapids woman found that out the hard way Tuesday morning. Bernice J. Cadwallader, 47, has been charged with second-degree theft after her manager at Wendy's, 1316 First Ave. NE, realized bank deposits had not been made.
Cadwallader is accused of taking $1,226 on Jan. 7 and 8, police said. Sgt. Cristy Hamblin said it was an easy case to solve.
“She left a note in the deposit bag that she had taken the money and that she would repay them,” Hamblin said.
Cadwallader later admitted to restaurant staff that she took the money, police said, but asked for her attorney when she was questioned.
Cadwallader was arrested at Wendy's on Tuesday morning and taken to the Linn County Jail. She was no longer on the inmate roster Wednesday.
