Disappointed in Reynolds’ lack of leadership

In an interview with WHO radio in Des Moines, Gov. Kim Reynolds rejected President Joe Biden's appeal to states to help with resettlement of unaccompanied minors coming across the U.S.- Mexico border. She said this was the president's problem and he was the one responsible for finding a solution.
In the mid to late 1970s Gov. Robert Ray stood out among governors when he took the lead in welcoming Southeast Asian refugees from the Vietnam War to our state and setting up resettlement programs for them. He felt personally the predicament of "the boat people."
The contrast in attitude between these two governors could hardly be more stark.
We are so grateful for having lived during Bob Ray's governorship, when we could be proud of the leadership our state was showing to the rest of the nation. We hope that some day we can feel that again. At present we cannot.
