Area teens arrested for making bombs in park

Five area teens were arrested Thursday for making bombs out of household chemicals and blowing them up in Van Buren Park.
Nobody was hurt in the incident but the 15- and 16-year-olds were charged with reckless use of fire and released to their parents, Cedar Rapids Police Sgt. Cristy Hamblin said Friday. Officers responded to the call about 8:51 p.m. Thursday at Van Buren Park, 2616 27th St. SW.
The teens were found with the chemicals and materials for the bombs, according to a police report.
The teens are: Weston Hinton, 16, of 1220 Sunrise Drive in Ely; Jarred Bogers, 15, of 3109 Huxley Lane SW in Cedar Rapids; Michael Whetstone, 16, of 110 Swisher View Drive SW in Swisher; Christopher Mosbeck, 16, of 7109 Selzer Road in Fairfax; and
David Carolan, 16, of 1515 Knoll Court in Ely.
