Barbara Elizabeth Spencer, 70, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, May 9, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Word of Faith Pentecostal COGIC, 2325 16th Ave. SW, Cedar Rapids, IA 52404. Andrew Latchinson will do the honor of officiating. Repast will commence at the church immediately following services. There will be no visitation.
Barbara is survived by her children, Keith Maide, Charles Maide, Dionne Maide, Rosalyn (Joseph) Bozeman-Bryant, Ruben (Tasha) Ginger and Tammy (Donnell) Williams; her brothers, Charles Sims and Ruben Sims, her sister, Altie Sims; 15 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Erastus Spencer; her eldest daughter, Vernita Maide; her parents, Joseph and Vernita Sims; and her brother, Joseph Sims.
Barbara Elizabeth Ginger Spencer was born Nov. 30, 1943, to Joseph and Vernita Sims in St. Louis, Mo. She was united in marriage to Roosevelt Giner, who precedes her in death. She later married Erastus Spencer, who also preceded her in death. Those who loved and knew her referred to her as "Ginger."
Barbara retired from Meth-Wick Community where she spent 25 years as an employee. Many would say that Meth-Wick was her second home.
Ginger will be remembered as a loyal friend, a loving daughter, a phenomenal mother, a protective and loving sister, an inspiration and a remarkable woman.

The family would like to thank the truly amazing and dedicated staff at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. There are so many nurses, staff, physicians and auxiliary who went above and beyond to care for our mother and our family.
Our love and gratitude are also extended to Pastor Wendell A. Beets and First Lady Lenora Carpenter-Beets for their support and prayers.
