Franzen, Kandy Kay
Kandy Kay Franzen, 58, of Monmouth, died peacefully Friday morning, Nov. 2, 2012, at her home surrounded by her loving family.A celebration of Kandy's life will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, at Pearson Hall in Maquoketa, where visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7. Burial will be at Monmouth Cemetery. The Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa is caring for the family.
Kandy Kay Scott was born July 20, 1954, in Maquoketa, Iowa, to Ralph E. and Helen E. (Schmidt) Scott. She graduated from Maquoketa High School in 1972 and then went to airline school in Kansas City. She married Michael Vincent Franzen on April 27, 1974, at First United Methodist Church in Maquoketa.
Kandy had first worked at Clinton Engines in Maquoketa as a secretary. She then helped farm and run the family business, Franzen Family Tractors, for over 36 years.
Kandy was never one to sit around and was actively involved in many organizations, projects and clubs. She was a proud member of the Baldwin/Monmouth Faith United Methodist Church, where she participated in church activities. She was a cheerleading sponsor for the Midland Community High School, 4-H leader for the Monmouth Co-Ed, County Council leader for 4-H, Jackson County Fair Board Association member, Jackson County and Wyoming Fair Queen coordinator, and a member of the Iowa No.5 International Harvester Collectors Club.
She loved going for jeep rides, attending the grandchildren's activities, riding in her convertible, traveling to tractor shows, and going to local fairs and state fairs. She especially loved spending time with her husband, children and grandchildren, and her granddogs, Buckshot and Bo. Her extended family and friends were also important to her, along with the “YA YA” Friends.
Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Mike Franzen of Monmouth; children, Sheri (Kirk) Dosland, Chuck (Krista) Franzen and Scott (Amber) Franzen, all of Monmouth; nine grandchildren, Levi and Mikayla Dosland, Alex, Ashley, Addi and Ava Franzen, Gracie, Gabbie and Isabella Franzen; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Brian (Marla) Franzen, Cindy (Lynn) Nienkark, Barb Ihrig, Judy (Mark) Nienkark, Brenda Franzen and Karen Franzen, all of Maquoketa.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her granddog, Sadie.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made to Hospice of Jackson County or to the Baldwin/Monmouth Faith United Methodist Church.
The family wishes to thank everyone for their kind words, prayers and support through Kandy's illness and passing.
