Brooks, Ellen Hope
Ellen Hope Brooks, 92, of Cedar Rapids, was welcomed by her Lord and Savior Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013, at HCR Manor Care, West Des Moines. Services: 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, at Oakhill Jackson Community Church, Cedar Rapids. Family will greet friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her children, Linda Brooks-Lake of Cedar Rapids, Nathan Brooks of Des Moines and Rashad Lipcomb of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Louis Everett Brooks, Thomas Edward Brooks and Francis Ellen Brooks; and her church family at Oakhill Jackson Community Church pastored by Rod Dooley.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace E. Brooks - they wed in Rock Island, Ill., in 1948; and two brothers, Louis Everett Alnutt and Charles Frederick Alnutt.
Ellen was born June 14, 1921, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, daughter of Louis Everett and Eva Pauline Alnutt. She worked as a caterer and a maid. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting and most of all children. Ellen was very loyal and focused on her family, from her parents, to her own children, grandchildren and children of the community. God gave us a wonderful mother.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Oakhill Jackson Community Church.
