Baty, Carl Jackson
Carl Jackson Baty was born Sept. 8, 1920, in Troy Mills, Iowa. He was the son of Dale and Grace McKee Baty. Carl served his country in the United States Navy and Marine Corps and fought in the battle of Iwo Jima where he was injured in the line of duty and stationed in Guam. Carl and Rose Sacco were united in marriage on April 13, 1947 at Everett, Mass. The couple were stationed in Charleston, S.C.; Great Lakes, Ill.; Boston, Mass., New York, New York; Waukegan, Ill.; and Norfolk, Va. Following Carl's retirement from the Navy, the couple moved to Anamosa in 1969 where he was employed at the Iowa Men's reformatory for 19 years as the chief engineer, He was a member of the American Legion Post 0459 in Newark, Ill., past president of Iowa Association of Power Engineers and a Boy Scout Troop Leader.
In lieu of flowers. a memorial fund has been established.
