Jackson, Glen
Glen Jackson was born August 10, 1964, in Marshalltown, Iowa, to Joseph Cecil and Joyce Carolyn Connley Jackson. He was raised and educated there until graduating from Marshalltown High School in 1983. He went on to the University of Northern Iowa where he received his BA and Masters degrees. While living in Cedar Rapids, Glen taught at Kirkwood Community College and worked for McLeod, AEGON and APAC. He taught at the postsecondary level also in Illinois, Missouri, Texas and Florida before his illness forced him to retire in 2010. He loved teaching and missed it greatly upon his retirement.
Glen enjoyed reading, film, live music, flying and travel. He was also passionate about live theatre and participated in community theatre activities. He loved to laugh at himself as much as with others.
He is survived by three sisters, Anna Jackson, Carol Galloway and Chrissy Hand, all of Grinnell; five nieces and nephews; 11n great-nieces and nephews; a great-aunt and several cousins.
Glen died on Monday, April 11, 2011, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center. He was 46 years old and was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial contributions may be made directly to First Congregational Church of Marshalltown, Manitoqua Ministries, and the Casa Viva Initiative. Contributions can also be given to the Glen Jackson Memorial Fund at Wells Fargo Bank.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 7, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell. Visitation with the family present will be held one hour before service time. Interment will consist of a private family ceremony at a later date.
