Dennis R. Duffield, 78, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. A memorial visitation will be held at a later date. Burial: Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Van Meter, Iowa, at a later date. Arrangements by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home.

Survivors include his children, Debra (John) Quinnell of West Des Moines, Curtis (Anne) Duffield of Cedar Rapids, and LeAnn (Thomas) Neel of Cedar Rapids; and his grandchildren, Daniel (Jodi) Quinnell, Jeff Allyn, Melissa Chaplain, Jolene (Leo) Johnson, Leland (Katie) Duffield, Cody Duffield, Amy (Ryan) Tierney and Rafferty Neel. Also surviving are his great-grandchildren, Liam, Sam, Chloe and Noah Allyn, Dillon Duffield, Jesse Johnson, Tait and Truman Tierney; sister, Doris Gibson; brother, Tom Duffield; and his pit bull, Encie.

Dennis was preceded in death by his wife, Janice; parents; granddaughter, Mary Allyn; and brothers, Leland and Ted Duffield.

Born Feb. 20, 1933, in Kellerton, Iowa, Dennis was the son of William “Ray” and Pearl (Harris) Duffield. Dennis served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict and was a current member of the American Legion. On Sept. 27, 1953, he married his childhood sweetheart, Garnet “Janice” Heggs in Kellerton, Iowa. He farmed with his brothers in southern Iowa prior to moving to Cedar Rapids, where he sold real estate for 26 years.

A memorial fund has been established in Dennis' memory.
