Jim Leland
JIM "SLIM" LELAND
Mount Vernon
Jim "Slim" Leland passed away suddenly at home on Sunday, Aug. 23, 2015, at the age of 33.
Jim was preceded in death by his loving mother and father, Kathy and Dick Leland.
Slim was an active and beloved member of the Eastern Iowa musical community and accomplished bass player. He could often be found at a variety of taverns, community halls, restaurants or friends' kitchens, playing in various musical configurations.
Slim was a regular and founding member of multiple bands and played countless gigs throughout eastern and central Iowa with his friends.
Slim loved to fish, camp and spend time with friends and loved ones around a campfire telling stories, jokes, and sharing his philosophies and his curiosities about people, politics, life and love.
He loved his pet cats, reading, Chevy vans, AM radio, IPTV, making his famous "Methodist dinner rolls," riding his motorcycle, and most recently, had taken up restoring antique fishing rods.
Slim had an unquench-able curiosity and appetite for life that inspired all of those around him and he will be lovingly remem-bered by everyone who had the great fortune of meeting him.
"Be nice, it don't cost nuthin'" – R.W. Leland
A memorial gathering of friends and family will be held Sunday, Aug. 30, at the Stone City General Store from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
