Dolores J. Thomas, 81, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, March 2, 2016, at St. Luke's Hospital. Services: 1 p.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Private family entombment: Cedar Memorial Chapel Mausoleum. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday.
Survivors include her husband, Chuck; a daughter, Deb (Ron) Steitz; a son, Chuck (Sherry); and two sisters, Nancy (Buzz) Morning, all of Cedar Rapids, and Mary (Earl) Starling of Savannah, Ga.; and a brother, Carl (Pauline) Petsel of Greenville, Tenn. She also is survived by four grandchildren, Karen Feltman, Jeremy (Stacy) Steitz, Heather Thomas and Austin (Bubba) Thomas; six great-grandchildren, Belle and Melanie Hansen, Jaxson Fitzpatrick, Cassidy, Alivia and Brody Steitz; many nieces and nephews; and a lifelong friend, Nelda Hamer.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Lillian King and Viola Ellis.
Dolores was born Oct. 31, 1934, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Leonard and Erna Dittburner Petsel. She married Charles F. Thomas Jr. on Aug. 27, 1953, in Cedar Rapids.
Dolores was operations manager for data processing for Linn County for over 34 years, retiring in 1998.
She was an avid gardener, raising a variety of beautiful flowers, and especially enjoyed the time spent with her beloved family and many friends. She and Chuck enjoyed traveling. They traveled to Las Vegas for 34 straight years, to Wisconsin for over 60 years and to Hawaii for their 25th wedding anniversary.
Dolores was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother, whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
A memorial fund has been established.
