Tanner, Geraldine R. 'Gerry'
Geraldine R. “Gerry” Tanner, 87, of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully at Manor Care Convalescent Home on May 21, 2010. Services: 11 a.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, where friends may call after 10 a.m. Monday. The Rev. Ron Lewis will officiate. Entombment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Gerry is survived by her one son, William and his wife, Cinda; and four grandchildren, Robert (Carri), Cheryl (Jeff Harding), Allison (Jeff Johnson) and Meredith (Keith Slaymaker). Each grandchild has blessed her with two great-grandchildren, Zachary and Rebecca, Katelyn and Kristen, Alexavier and Savannah, Rachel and Elyse respectively.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and an infant sister, Elizabeth. Gerry was born July 8, 1922, in Morley, the daughter of Amos and Grace Decious. The family moved to Cedar Rapids when Gerry was six months old. Gerry resided in the Cedar Rapids area the rest of her life. She attended Franklin High School. Gerry married Robert Tanner on Oct. 11, 1941. He passed away in November 2001.
Gerry and Bob enjoyed camping and fishing; also traveling to visit their son and his family in Cincinnati and later Los Angeles, as well as trips to Texas to visit Bob's sister. They were involved with Christ Church Presbyterian, where Gerry was a 25-year member.
In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, Gerry will be remembered for her love for children, having cared for many in her home over the years.
Memorial donations may be given to Christ Church Presbyterian in Gerry's name.
