Greene, William 'Bill' L.
William “Bill” L. Greene, 79, of Marion, died Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012, at the Hiawatha Care Center. Funeral Service: 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion. Family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Private Burial: Oak Shade Cemetery, Marion, at a later date.
Survivors include his wife, Jeannine; children, Kathy Greene, Pam (Mike) Glowacki, Dennis (Kim) Greene and Paula (Steve) Peot; stepchildren, Kevin O'Malley, Kelly (Shari) O'Malley, Kirk (Debbie) O'Malley, Kris Long (Denny), Kory O'Malley and Kraig (Robin) O'Malley; 33 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert (Gwen) Greene of Marion; and a sister, Lucille (Jack) Fairley of Marion.
He was preceded in death by his parents; former wives, Patricia and Aletha; a sister, Betty Gallo; and brother, Richard “Homer” Greene.
Bill was born Jan. 13, 1933, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Aloysius and Irene Greene. He married Patricia Porter in 1952, then married Aletha Slaymaker. On Dec. 24, 1975, Bill married Jeannine O'Malley in Marion. Bill worked as a mechanic at Rapids Chevrolet, FMC, Universal Engineering and Mike McGrath, retiring in 2005. He enjoyed playing pool, cards, fishing and spending time with his family, friends and neighbors. He believed that Happy Hour could be any time of the day.
The family would like to thank the Hiawatha Care Center for the caring and compassion shown to Bill.
