Laurel Wayne Dunnick, 80, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Sept. 16, 2015, at Baylor Medical Center, Plano, Texas. A private ceremony will be held later.
Laurel was the son of Elmer and Maxine (Mott) Dunnick. He grew up on a farm in Poweshiek County where he attended country school and then graduated from Montezuma High School in 1952.
Laurel enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1953. Home on leave, he married Dixie Lee Palmer on July 11, 1954. Returning to Cedar Rapids, Laurel completed his degree at Coe College and worked at Hawkeye Rubber as a general manager until his retirement.
Laurel was preceded in death by wife, Dixie; and son-in-law, Bruce Slaymaker.
He is survived by their three children, Wayne (Denra) Dunnick of Portland, Ore., Danni Dunnick-Slaymaker of Mount Vernon and Barri (Jeff) Whitaker; and siblings, Veta (Richard) Hildebrand of Marion and Ivan (Susan) Dunnick of Bonners Ferry, Idaho.
