Sanders, Doris Marie
Doris Marie Sanders, 75, a resident of Kansas City, Mo., formerly of Cedar Rapids, died unexpectedly on Monday, Nov. 29, 2010.
Doris was born Sept. 11, 1935, near Council Bluffs, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, Daisy and Eugene McCammon. Doris' parents owned a hardware store in Urbana, Iowa, for a number of years before moving to Maquoketa, Iowa. Doris attended Coe College in Cedar Rapids, after graduating from high school.
Doris served many years as a multitalented executive secretary at employers including Metropolitan Supply Company, Rockwell International, The Kansas City Star and Allied Signal.
Doris had many interests including spending time with family and friends, serving her church as a deacon, traveling to England and other European countries, knitting hundreds of baby caps, feeding stray cats and deer, creative writing and cooking.
Doris was a beautiful and vivacious lady who enchanted everyone with her delightful personality, including strangers. She was loved much and will be greatly missed by everyone.
Preceded in death by her husband, Donald L. Sanders, Doris is survived by her son, Bradford D. Harris of North Liberty; a daughter, Sabra A. and son-in-law Steve Sandy of Kansas City, Mo.; and a sister, Patricia Brown of Onawa, Iowa.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Dec. 10 at Barry Christian Church, 1500 NW Barry Rd., Kansas City, MO 64155.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Barry Christian Church.
