Block, Gary L.
Gary L. Block, 63, of Oxford Junction, died Monday, Feb. 18,2013, at his home. Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Lahey Funeral Home in Maquoketa. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in Maquoketa, with military honors. Lahey Funeral & Cremation Services in Maquoketa is in charge of arrangements.
Gary L. Block was born April 27, 1949, in Cascade, Iowa, to William and Stella (Brown) Block. On March 21, 2009, he was united in marriage to Joan James in DeWitt. Gary was a senior software engineer at Rockwell Collins for 10 years. He served in the United States Marine Corps.
He was a member of the Cornerstone Assembly of God Church in DeWitt, American Legion Wapsie Post 473 of Oxford Junction and the Ham Radio Club in Anamosa.
He liked to do woodcarvings. He was an artist and painted murals in Oxford Junction. He also enjoyed poetry, song writing, and playing the guitar.
Gary is survived by his wife, Joan Block of Oxford Junction; three children, Shane (Heidi Jo) Block of Cedar Rapids and Wade Block and Jeremy Block of Oxford Junction; three stepchildren, Tonya Seaberg of DeWitt and Robin and Brandie Seaberg of Oxford Junction, five grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; and three brothers, Dick (Linda) Block of Lost Nation and Chuck (Darlene) and Eugene (Diane) Block of Maquoketa.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
