Johnson, Maxine Elizabeth
Maxine Elizabeth Johnson, 86, a resident of Willow Gardens, Marion, died Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009, at the care center. Services: 1 p.m. Wednesday, Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial: Oakland Cemetery, Manchester.
Survivors include her children, Shirley Thompson and Jerry Smith, both of Cedar Rapids, Nancie Smith of Hiawatha, and Marcia Conrad of Cedar Rapids; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mildred Popinski of Minnesota, and Ada Clark of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Richard; infant brother; three sisters, Claire, Betty and Viola; and a lifelong companion, Frank Jacobs.
Maxine was born April 7, 1923, the daughter of Frank and Margaret (Fogel) Midkiff, in Independence, Iowa. She married Lloyd Smith and later married Erwin Johnson. Maxine enjoyed bird watching and planting flowers.
A memorial fund has been established in memory of Maxine.
