Wathan, Don Edward
Don Edward Wathan, 60, of Toledo, passed away Saturday, March 10, 2012, at his home under the care of Iowa Hospice, surrounded by his family. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 15, at Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo, with military honors. A Celebration of Life will follow at the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Tama.
Don was born July 11, 1951, in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Cecil and Grace (Petersen) Wathan. He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1969-1972 in Vietnam, where he attained the rank of sergeant. On Sept. 28, 1996, he was united in marriage to Gwen Foreman Anderson at Rainbow Lake in Tama. Don was a member of the American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his father and a stepson, Sidney Anderson.
Survivors include his wife, Gwen of Toledo; his children, Jesse (Angie) Wathan of Wilton, Julie (Michael) McCabe of Pontiac, Ill., Gail (Brad) Meek of Toledo, Rick (Ashlee) Anderson of Puyallup, Wash., and Lesley (Josh) Youngbear of Tama; 13 grandchildren, Alexis, Josie, Kailee, Ethan, Jacob, Natalie, Logan, Justin, Jarret, Kyle, Olivia, Jaxton and Ashlyn; his mother, Grace Wathan of Wilton; one sister, Ann (Dean) Nordeen of Florence, Ariz.; and one brother, Joe Wathan of Durant.
A memorial fund has been established.
