ERNESTINE VANDER SANDEN
Cedar Rapids
Ernestine Ann Vander Sanden, 81, of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family in the peace and serenity of her home and into her new heaven on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2015. Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, at All Saints Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26, with a Scripture service at 6:30 p.m., at Murdoch-
Linwood Funeral Home &
Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. The family invites everyone back to the church for a luncheon and fellowship following the committal service.
Survivors include her husband, Gerald Vander Sanden of Cedar Rapids; children, Cheryl Frost of Omaha, Neb., Jerry (Denise) Vander Sanden of Cedar Rapids, Marie Vander Sanden of Clinton, Brad Vander Sanden of Cedar Rapids, Karen (Mike) McKee of Naples, Fla., and Bruce (Karen) Vander Sanden of Cedar Rapids; 15 grandchildren and six great-grand-children.
Ernestine was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Josephine Olson; sister, Bonnie Ledbetter; and brother, Bradley Olson.
Ernestine was born in Boscobel, Wis., on Feb. 17, 1934, daughter of Ernest and Josephine Olson. She had found her heaven on Earth in her 61 years of blissful marriage to the love of her life, Gerald Vander Sanden, and their six children, 15 grand-children and six great-grandchildren. Her family was always her greatest source of pride and joy, and she found pleasure and contentment in any journey or occasion that brought her family together. Ernestine was a kind and thoughtful woman who was a friend to all and accepted everyone as they were.
She had a special "gift of gab" and enjoyed hardy conversation with young and old alike, especially if the topic was about the "good old days." Ernestine also was very proud of her hometown of Boscobel, Wis., and remained a loyal Boscobel Bulldog through her life.
Her warm smile and robust laughter will be greatly missed, but she has left behind countless precious and cherished memories that will forever stay in the hearts of the many lives she touched.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Mercy, Cedar Rapids.
Please share a memory of Ernestine at www. murdochfuneralhome.com under obituaries.
