Jack, Julie A.
Julie A. Jack, 19, of Independence, died Sunday, Dec. 7, 2009, at her home in Independence, following a long illness with adrenal cancer. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Catholic Church, Independence, with inurnment held at a later date. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory in Independence, where a rosary will be recited at 2 p.m.
Julie was born March 9, 1990, in Independence, Iowa, the daughter of John N. and Leasa (Conlon) Jack. She was a 2008 graduate of Independence High School and was named female athlete of the year in 2008, and was inducted into the school's hall of fame on Sept. 4, 2009. She was a student at Wartburg College in Waverly. She excelled in academics, earning a place in the National Honor Society and graduated eighth in her class.
Julie is survived by her parents, John and Leasa Jack of Independence; a sister, Megan Jack of Manchester; grandmother, Dorothy Jack of Independence; grandfather, Elden Meyer of Ottosen; aunts and uncles, Jim and Mary Kay Sloan of Pine City, Minn., Sandra and Mike Keegan of Dubuque, Judy Clarey of Carroll, Pam and Mike Sullivan of Cedar Rapids, John and Kay Conlon of Sioux Falls, S.D., Patricia Conlon of Humboldt, Dan Conlon of Cedar Rapids, Mary Marian of Cedar Rapids, Ron and Teri Harshbarger of Paullina, Chris Conlon of Spencer, and Michelle Conlon of Cedar Rapids; many cousins; and her beloved puppy, Gingee.
She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Niles Jack; her grandmother, LaVon Meyer; uncles, Tim Conlon and Jim Marian; and cousin, Matt Conlon.
Julie and her family wish to thank all family and friends who have loved and supported her these 19 precious years. Special thanks to Cedar Valley Hospice, especially Amy Peyton and Mari Wenzel, who were our comfort in the last days.
