Halftime thoughts from UNI-Iowa, with the Hawkeyes ahead, 17-13:
1. When you have nine penalties and are the visiting team, and the opponent has none, you're lucky to be down by just four points.
2. On the other hand, Iowa is very fortunate about a couple of those UNI penalties when it had the ball in the red zone.
3. If you had Jonathan Parker tied for Iowa's rushing lead at halftime (one carry, 21 yards), you are officially a witch.
4. Is anyone really surprised this was a pretty even first-half?
5. Jake Duzey, if he stays healthy, is going to have a lot of catches this year. He wasn't listed as second-team tight end, but five receptions in one half indicates otherwise.
6. I'm thinking it was big short-term and long-term that Marshall Koehn made that 40-yard field goal for Iowa with one second left in the first half. On his first career field goal try, to make a kick in a close game near the end of a half and to make it from 40 yards out has to raise his confidence considerably, and confidence is to kicking what mustard is to hot dogs.
7. There aren't that many empty seats here. For a holiday-weekend game, Iowa shouldn't have any complaint about the attendance.
8. Iowa has 16 first downs, UNI 6. But the Panthers have two pass plays of 50 yards or more. Iowa's longest pass is 13 yards.
