Henkelman, Patricia M.
Patricia M. Henkelman, 82, of Oxford, died peacefully Friday, March 9, 2012, surrounded by her family. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 14, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oxford, with Father Dunn officiating. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at the church, with a rosary at 4 p.m.
Patricia was born March 16, 1929, to Joseph and Anna Krantz in Panama, Iowa. She was raised in Harlan, Iowa. She later met the love of her life, Harold, while they were working at The Bee Factory. They married in 1945, and, in 1959, they moved to Oxford, where they raised their four children.
Patricia was a member of St. Mary's Church in Oxford, Altar and Rosary Society and The Blue Army. She also initiated the Living Rosary and was the supporter of Fatima Crusaders.
Patricia was a wonderful baker and cook. She will always be remembered for her famous cinnamon rolls, cupcakes and pies.
Survivors include her daughters, Joanne Staton (Mitch Turner) of North Liberty and Therese Schebler (Joseph) of Oxford and “just like a daughter,” Patty Villhauer; sons, Nicholas Henkelman (Debbie Donaldson) of Hedgesville, W.Va., and Stephen Henkelman (Gina) of Oxford; and sisters, Elaine Jacobs of Northwood, Iowa, Annamae Kramer of Harlan and Cleopha Lawyer (Merle) of Harlan; grandchildren, Scott and Chris Ellis, Danielle Waechter, Catie, Joseph and Michael (Erin) Henkelman, Lisa Cole, Cris Bulten, Tonya Bulten and Amanda (Ted) Hill, and “just like grandchildren,” Amanda Lynn, Brett and Megan Seelman; great-grandchildren, Sean and Grace Ellis and Averi Cole; great-great-grandchild, Jordan Ellis; and a baby great-grandson on the way.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Urban Walter and Vincent; sisters, Ruth and Viola; and her best friend, Elaine Sedlacek.
The family would like to thank her health care team for her excellent care, Dr. Halfdanarson “Thor,” Diane Van Ersvelde, Natilie, and her favorite home health care nurse, Linda Moeller, also Iowa City Hospice and the Holden Cancer Center.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to Iowa City Hospice.
