Decorah officials gearing up for Obama visit
Aug. 15, 2011 9:30 am
City officials in Decorah have been working around the clock to prepare for President Obama's visit Monday night.
With all eyes on Decorah, Mayor Don Arendt called this visit a “special opportunity” to show off his city.
For about five days, fire and police crews have been working on a security plan for the president's visit. The plan includes closing down several streets in town, including the main street, Water Street, in downtown Decorah.
The sheriff and his team will also patrol rural roadways and bridges when Obama arrives.
The town hall meeting is set to take place at 5:15 p.m. today at Seed Savers Exchange. It's part of his Midwest economic bus tour, which will last three days.
Attendees will need a ticket, Arendt said, but by the time the president's visit was officially announced, all tickets had already been distributed,
