Shores, Marguerite Rose

Marguerite Rose Shores, 99, formerly of Cedar Rapids, passed away July 30, 2010, at Hospice of the Valley in Mesa, Ariz.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Kathleen Shores of Albuquerque, N.M.; her grandsons, Tim Slaman (wife Gloria) and three great-grandchildren, Michael, Sofia and Kevin Slaman, of Chandler, Ariz., and Dr. Jim Slaman, and stepgranddaughter, Taylor Slaman, of Albuquerque.

Marguerite Shores was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Shores; and her parents, Ludwig and Lottie Rubek.

She was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on July 10, 1911. She graduated from Grant High School in 1929 and was valedictorian of her class. She attended business college in Cedar Rapids and was later employed by Penick and Ford for a number of years. She moved to Arizona permanently about 10 years ago and had wintered in Arizona many years before. She enjoyed many wonderful years, traveling, dancing, participating in water aerobics, enjoying the beauty of Arizona and always the “Life of the Party.”

A memorial service will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories on 9.24.10 at 11 a.m. and there also will be a visitation after 10 a.m. The burial mass will be held at St. Matthew's Catholic Church at 1 p.m.
