Gerald Babbage, 80, of Casa Grande, Ariz., formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Oct. 3, 2016, in Chandler, Ariz. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, at Czech National Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Papich-Kuba Funeral Service is in charge of local arrangements.
Gerald is survived by his wife of 16 years, Bernice; two sons and a daughter, Lee A., Linda A. and Gerald James Babbage Jr.; three stepchildren, Robert J., Mary Ann and Thomas J.; five grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene R. Babbage.
Gerald was born Oct. 6, 1935, in Cedar Rapids, to Robert and Geraldine (Malecek) Babbage. As a youth, he was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church and graduated from St. Wenceslaus High School.
Also known as "Dusty" for his "over-the-hill age," he brought joy and laughter to those around him. He was an engineer for years until his retirement. When he wasn't working, he enjoyed playing games and cards, and he especially enjoyed watching NASCAR. In his earlier years, he enjoyed golfing, bowling and skating. He was a funny jokester who had a loving and generous personality. He was devoted to his family, especially his grandchildren.
