Honor Flight reception was awesome
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Nov. 16, 2013 11:16 am
Oct. 16 was a day that I will remember forever. Thanks to the Eastern Iowa Honor Flight, I went to Washington, D.C., with fellow veterans of Korea and World War II. We were able to visit the many memorials that have been dedicated to the men and women who served and sacrificed. The flight was excellent and the day was perfect. The staff and volunteers who planned this day are to be commended for their efforts. They saw to our every need throughout the day. The guide who accompanied us on the bus provided information that made the trip even more enjoyable. Until I visited the Korean memorial, I had forgotten how many countries were involved in that conflict.
The reception at The Eastern Iowa Airport was awesome. I felt as if I had just returned from my tour of duty in Korea back in 1952. A big thank you to everyone who came out at 10:45 p.m. to welcome home the veterans of two wars.
