Anthes, Fern R.
Fern R. Anthes, 89, of Cottage Grove Place died there Monday, April 16, 2012, after a long illness. Services at 11 a.m. Friday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday.
Survivors include two daughters, Laura (Neal) Dudek of Marion, and Janet (Rick) Evans of Springville; a brother, Oscar (Lucia) of Cedar Rapids; and a sister, Faye Port of Arizona.
He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Kris, Roxi, Shelly, Rob, Robin, Cal, Curt and Cassi; ten and a half great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Marjorie Nelson; and a son, James.
Fern was born on Nov. 6, 1922, in Audubon, the son of Oscar and Sarah Clark Anthes. He married Bernice C. Clapp on April 23, 1942, in Marion. Bernice died in 2009. Fern farmed near Springville for over 50 years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of the Viola United Methodist Church. Fern enjoyed woodworking, gardening, raising flowers and especially the time spent with his beloved family and many friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
