Letter: Immigrants are assets to our communities

With the president trying all he can to thwart immigrants from coming here, I have to wonder: Where did his ancestors come from?
On both sides of my family, they came from Europe. Did they have an easy time? Not likely. They had to learn the language, find a home and job, and raise their kids to be good citizens. They helped make this country what it is - a beacon of light, hope and opportunity. They found a community, put down roots, made their way and taught succeeding generations to do likewise, just as immigrants today are doing. These folks bring a whole new dynamic to this nation, whether it be the music they make, the job they do, or the foods we learn to enjoy. They broaden our horizons when we hear their life stories.
With all that they bring, most will do as our forebearers did: Work hard, make their way and become assets to our communities.
